My Introduction
I am Jenon Fung, engineer, mathematician, amateur
evolutionary psychologist, violinist, diabolo practitioner, LARP warrior,
weightlifter, philosopher, webcomic connoisseur, and SCP D-class personnel. An
aerospace and electrical engineering double major, the most enjoyable aspect of
my profession is telling people that airplane companies use glue to hold modern
composite planes together, such as the Boeing 787. I hope to work for Boeing,
and I have a second internship lined up with them this summer. Hopefully, I
will be able to contribute something meaningful to the company. Aside from this,
my career plans include working very hard and allowing my work drive to get
completely out of control and eat my happiness and personal values.
My hobbies include impersonating Marie Curie online, explaining
the Konigsberg bridge problem to people waiting to order Canes Chicken,
explaining fiber layup shear moment coupling to people in line at Walmart, and
trying to kill my friends with padded sticks in the woods. I also enjoy asking
how people would hide a giraffe from the government and weightlifting. In addition
to this, I read an inappropriately large number of webcomics. My favorite webcomic
is “I Love Yoo” by Quimchee, who I consider to be a webcomic author with great
potential. My second favorite webcomic is “Space Boy” by Stephen McCranie. These
are the only two webcomics that I would unambiguously consider good, all the
other webcomics that I read have serious issues that disqualify them.
Attached below is a general summation of my character.
Figure 1: Cow Wikipedia
To address some of the suggested questions that I didn’t get
to, my favorite class last semester was space sciences, during which I
established a permanent mun base in Kerbal Space Program; this was also my greatest achievement last semester. Over winter break, I
went to visit New Orleans, where I promptly fell ill and missed the best dinner
that I had planned to attend. I refuse to share my favorite song, as I care far
too much about it and hold it quite personally. With regards to pets, my cat
died two years ago, and I never took any pictures of her. I don’t have a particular
favorite food, as I don’t care how food tastes; I eat solely for physical
survival, and so any food that fills me for a long time is a favorite food to
me. If I had an extra 24 hours to do anything I wanted, I would spend it
preparing for the next day.
Wow Jenon! I am super impressed with all you are doing! I do not think I could handle all those responsibilities and still take care of myself. How do you find time to sleep? Also, congratulations on your internship with Boeing! I really hope you will get to continue working with them after college! Truly sounds like a dream job for an aerospace engineer. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your Boeing internships, Jenon: I bet that is a really exciting place to work, especially with all the engineering research and experiments I am sure they must be doing. My husband is a pilot and a chemistry major in college, so I will have to ask him his thoughts on glueing planes together, ha ha. Between hidden giraffes and elevated cows, perhaps the legendary animals of India will merit your attention, like Kamdhenu
ReplyDeletethe cow, or Airavata, who is not the only flying elephant. And then there is the Pushpaka Vimana, a spaceship that figures in the Ramayana. Ravana stole it from Kubera. Gory details here if you are interested: Kubera: The Lord of Wealth. Perhaps you can imagine an ancient Boeing, manufacturing Vimanas. And perhaps hiding giraffes. :-)
Hey Jenon, I am super impressed with all of your activities and interests. I in fact could not keep up, but the fact you do all of that and still find time for an internship is amazing! I thought I was a busy person, ha. But I appreciate how your passion for something is so strong, especially in college. I think a lot of kids know what they want to do, but are not fully committed to getting it done, so the fact you are is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey Jenon! I am also an engineering major. I was in electrical engineering ,like you, but I took the programming class that we needed to take and fell in love with it. That made me change my major to computer engineering. I am really curious about what your favorite song is since you wont share it! Hope all goes well for you at Boeing this summer. Your class mate Alex.
ReplyDeleteHey Jenon, Aerospace Engineer is super interesting. Interning for Boeing is also impressive to say the least. What kinds of composites are they using on the new planes? Is it just carbon fiber, and if so, how do they fabricate the parts? Can they fit an entire wing or fuselage in to an autoclave, or do they have to make it in multiple pieces and bond it outside of the autoclave?
ReplyDeleteJenon, you who are apparently uttering amoosing, I can confirm from personal experience that aircraft parts are not only glued together but that they can be repaired inflight with "100 mph" tape. I am intrigued, amused, and maybe a little creeped out by the notion that you impersonate Madame Curie online. Next time I am in the drive through at my nearest Cains chicken, I will no doubt consider if you are the one ahead of me inline who is taking so long at the window.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading your storybooks. Based on your introduction, I imagine they will be extremely interesting. I hope you always sing your favorite song to yourself and maintain a healthy caloric intake. I look forward to your future thoughts in this class.

DeleteHi Jenon!
ReplyDeleteYou seem like a really fun person to be around, and I can tell you really know yourself. I am extremely impressed you already have an internship lined up and an idea of what you want to do post graduation. I am currently dealing with the haunting dread of post-graduation plans so it is always nice to see when a peer is not dealing with the same stress.
Hey Jenon! I enjoyed getting to know you through your blog post! You have amazing hobbies! I'll take some time this weekend to read those web comics you mentioned. I was wondering if you have ever shared your favorite song with anyone? I'm excited to read more of your work!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, wow you sound busy! I feel like my weeks are pretty crazy but I’m uncertain that it’s anywhere in comparison to what you’ve got going. I advise you don’t let work eat away your happiness, but I’m still learning that myself. Your second paragraph was highly entertaining, especially hiding a giraffe from the government? Like, how many ways are there to say that?
ReplyDeleteHey Jenon,
ReplyDeleteSounds like being in line with you is a real ride, hope I run into in Walmart one of these days. The Seven Bridges of Konigsberg are some pretty good bridges (at least top 23 in my opinion), and they also give a pretty good graph theory problem (top 12.498, I think).
Congratulations on your Boeing internship; I hope it'll be everything you want from it.
Best,
A.
Hey Jenon! Wow, what an introduction! I am a mechanical engineering major and I would love to work for Boeing! I think we probably have some similar interests but I can honestly say I have never tried to explain engineering concepts to people in line at Walmart! I hope you enjoy the rest of your time at OU and learn as much as you can about engineering.
ReplyDeleteHello Jenon! Okay so first off is there any LARPing in norman? And do you do period based larping? Or is all larping medieval/magic based? I haven't even the slightest idea what the Konigsberg bridge problem so I hope to catch you at a Cane's someday. I respect your reservations when it comes to sharing your favorite song and I'm glad you have such a relationship with music! I love your assertion that you would spend it preparing for the next day. How do you prepare? Do you journal/calendar? Or are you talking like mentally preparing?
ReplyDeleteHey Jenon,
ReplyDeleteWow! I’m really impressed on all the activities you’re doing. It must be really stressful being a double major in aerospace and electrical engineering. Also, it’s great that you have an internship lined up with Boeing. You seem to have everything planned out for future, which is great! I’ve never read any web comics so I’ll check out the one’s you mentioned. Anyway, great introduction!
Hi Jenon! Your introduction was entertaining to read. I find it awesome that you enjoy so many hobbies. Congrats on your second internship with Boeing, I hope it goes well! Since you like talking about planes, have you ever considered flying one? OU offers classes to get a minor in Multi-engine commercial pilot or single-engine commercial pilot!
ReplyDeleteHey Jenon!
ReplyDeleteI gotta give your props on having such an interesting introduction! I noticed that you mentioned that you are big into weight lifting, got any favorite powerlifters you look up to? Also, I like how supportive/invested you are in web comics, as I love seeing those on the TL, though I never got too into the authors and different series so its interesting to see the other side than just casually laughing as one scrolls on twitter.
Hi Jenon!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed by all of your activities and school that you are doing. Aerospace and electrical engineering I have heard are both pretty difficult majors.. I can't imagine doing them both! You must be very very smart. Congrats on your internship with Boeing, that is so incredible. If you want to make a meaningful impact on the company, I'm sure you will!
Hi Jenon!
ReplyDeleteI think it's so cool how you're involved in so many different activities and hobbies. I thought your introduction was fun to read and gave me a good idea of what you're like. Also congrats on that second internship! Boeing is a great place to work at and I hope it all goes well!
Hi Jenon, that is so awesome how you are involved in so many things! I am actually very impressed because all the activities it just keeps you well rounded! And I am sorry about your cat… I know how devastating it is to have your pet pass away. And I wish the best of luck in your career! It definitely sounds like a dream job.
ReplyDeleteHey Jenon.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your introduction. You are involved in so many things, that is great to do. I for sure could not handle doing all that, but it is amazing that you are able to. Congrats on your internship. I like how you are making the right food choices, Cane's is where it's at. Maybe one day I will run into you in line and hear about the Konigsberg bridge problem.
Hi Jenon,
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice to learn about you through your introduction! Aerospace engineering has always been a dream of mine to pursue, but I never followed that route. You seem so knowledgeable and interesting to be around. I trust that you will be phenomenal engineer in the field. It is so wonderful how you have a second internship with Boeing! I am truly impressed by your introduction and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Hey Jenon! You seem like quite the character with such a wide array of interests and hobbies. How do the people in line at Cane’s and Walmart usually react to your theoretical explanations? I am very impressed that you are pursuing two engineering majors, and I hope your internship goes well this summer! Funny that the plane companies opted for glue; I’ve always found duct tape to be the most effective universal adherent.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenon,
ReplyDeleteThrough your blog I can get a sense of your humor and personality! It was so interesting to read about you! You are quite interesting! I cannot believe you are double majoring in two really hard degrees because props to you. I changed my entire major because I could not chemistry anymore. Your hobbies made me chuckle and so did the cow picture.
Hi Jenon,
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to meet you. I just want to start off by saying what an introduction! Some of the things I noticed where little sarcastic gestures here and there, which I can absolutely appreciate. You sound extremely busy, but passionate about the things that interest you. I applaud you for your hard work and dedication in life. I could definitely use some of that motivation in mine!! I hope you enjoy this class.
Howdy Jenon,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have an abundance of interests. I think you are very brave for pursuing a double major, especially in such difficult majors. I definitely do not think I could handle your busy schedule, so I do not blame you for wanting to prepare for the next 24 hours if you had a day off. I wish you the best on the few weeks we have left this semester!
Hey Jenon,
ReplyDeleteWow you are probably super busy!
I must say as a Biochemisty, that is awesome you know about Marie Currie. I am curious as to how you impersonate her? haha Also the cow picture is great!!
What got you interested into Space and working for Boeing? I wish you the best!!

ReplyDeleteHi Jenon,
ReplyDeleteI cannot say that we have much in common, but that is not a bad thing. I enjoy meeting people who introduce me to new things! You have so many interests!! Is this what you meant by diabolo practitioner? Now, evolutionary psychology I can get on board with. No matter what I study (Cognitive... social... developmental... etc) I always end up going back to evolutionary.
I love the image. It was lovely meeting you
Hello there, Jenon!
ReplyDeleteYour many hobbies/interests are very impressive. It can't be easy to balance being so intellectually inclined, musically talented and athletic! I don't know much about space sciences, except for that the hallmark of intelligence in pop-culture is "rocket-science", so kudos to you! I'm sure your other posts and stories are very well written, and I can't wait to see more! Best of luck in your studies!
Hey Jenon,
ReplyDeleteIt was nice reading your blog. I don’t know that we have much in common since I do not dare enter the gym let alone lift anything in there and I love food. But maybe something cool is a lot of my family members are aerospace engineers and two of them work for Boeing. Its really impressive that your double majoring in two difficult subject so good luck!
Hello Jenon! I love your introduction. It felt like there was a lot of humor in there. I'm a math major myself, but I have to say I am far behind you if we're comparing resumes it seems. I'd tell you how many hobbies you have as a scalar in comparison to mine, but unfortunately any number times 0 gets annihilated, so that would be an impossible task. I would also wish you a great life, but you've already transcended any life my wishes could bring.
